Despite being broken down, 
Into smaller pieces all around 
To the level of cells, 
They can still recognize themselves 
Sticking together and forming clumps, 
The new, small sponges become lumps 
Sponges can regenerate with ease, 
Because it’s their expertise 
Capable of reassembling, 
They leave people remembering 
Becoming anew through resurrection, 
Sponges pull off a feat no other could mention 


SHAPE OF LIFE

Life as we know it, 
Was like an empty pit 
Until the first sponge appeared 
“I will be the first animal”, it volunteered 
Coming in many sizes and shapes, 
It receives nutrients when water escapes 
The pores of the sponge, porocyte 
Sponges were a gorgeous sight 
Lacking nervous system, limbs, muscle, and brain, 
Many did not think sponges would remain 
Relying on cells to function, 
Sponges were an odd introduction 
Reinventing itself continuously, 
Collagen assembled loose cells habitually 
Spicules used as identification, 
Also provided sponge’s foundation 
As stated earlier, sponges filter their food 
Distribute nutrients, with water subdued 
With choanocytes powering the pumps, 
Excreting egg and sperm into the water in clumps 
As sponges continue to live, 
Many forget it was the first to arrive, reproduce, thrive, and survive

The best thing about sitting down and enjoying nature is the peaceful atmosphere it brings. Most people like the silence whilst walking through an empty park or forest. It relieves stress, anxiety, and allows you to ponder over problems in peace. Everett Crowley Park is a massive park filled with many trees. I go there to talk short walks often because it’s fairly convenient for me to access. Full of lush greens and tall trees that tower over you, it’s the perfect spot to just walk around and think. Camosun Bog Restoration As early as 5000 years ago, the Camosun Bog started as a lake to a swamp and ending as a bog due to a depression in the land. The bog thrived, until 1929, when drains were installed, completely drying out the bog. The lack of water and nutrients caused the sphagnum moss to die, outcompeted by other invasive species. As a result, in order to restore the bog to its previous glory, volunteers had to remove many hemlock trees, lower the ground, and plant many sphagnum mosses.  The Camosun bog was important to Musqueam people. Urbanization was a means of calling the bog useless, unusable to Western people. However, to Musqueam people, it was an essential part of their history. To them, the bog told stories, memories, and was so full of life. 5000 years ago, the Camosun Bog formed when a heavy block of ice created a depression in the land. Initially, it was a lake but over time it turned into a swamp and finally to a bog. In 1929, the City of Vancouver added drains because housing was intruding the area which made the bog really dry. Hemlock trees started growing in the area and were taken down in 1991. To help improve the bog conditions, sphagnum moss was planted. Volunteers from schools came to help restore the bog and without them,  the bog would not be what it is today. The Camosun Bog is quite important for the Musqueam people To Western people, they thought the bogs were unusable and had no meaning; however, to Musqueam people, the bog was important to them because it was part of their history.
